CSB Recertification at a Glance

  • How often? Every three years.

  • When? Only in the 30 days before your certification expires. Renewals submitted earlier are not processed.

  • Where? In your eMaryland Marketplace Advantage (eMMA) account. There is no cost, and your CSB number stays the same if you renew before your current CSB certification expires.

When to recertify

Your Certified Small Business (CSB) certification is valid for three years. Certifications issued or renewed on or after August 29, 2025 carry the three-year term. If your business was certified before then, your next renewal moves you to the three-year cycle.

When your certification is 30 days from expiring, a notice appears on the Company Info page of your eMMA account. You must renew within that 30-day window. A renewal submitted before the window opens will not be processed.

What you will need

  • The number of employees on your payroll

  • Gross sales for the prior three years from your tax returns, or projected first-year gross sales if your business is new

Checking your status

In the Documents tab, the Document Validity column shows an orange check mark when your certification is 30 days from expiring, a red X while your renewal is pending, and a green check mark once your certification is active again.

If your certification expires

If you do not recertify by your expiration date, your CSB certification is removed automatically. You can reapply in eMMA, and if your business is still eligible, you will receive a new CSB number.

Staying compliant

Your business must continue to meet every CSB requirement, including the size limits for your industry, for as long as it is certified. Providing false information to obtain Small Business Reserve contracts can lead to a rejected bid, a voided contract, suspension or debarment, or criminal prosecution.
